The designers behind a Brooklyn luxury building want to build an apartment tower where a Long Island University student center currently stands, permits show.
The new 29-story building on the LIU Brooklyn campus could mostly include residential space—275 apartments in total—as well as a couple of floors of “educational” space, according to plans filed with the Department of Buildings this week.

As the real estate site pointed out, the developer and architect behind the project—RXR Realty and Perkins Eastman, respectively—also worked on a nearby luxury apartment tower, which recently opened and includes some income-restricted units.

The site where the proposed tower would be built, which is on the corner of Dekalb and Flatbush avenues at 75 Dekalb Avenue, currently houses a student fitness center-slash-cafe owned by Long Island University Brooklyn. It’s not immediately apparent what would happen to the existing buildings at the site, but no demolition permits have been filed as of 10 February, 2022.
