Councillors have deferred a decision on Allford Hall Monaghan Morris’s controversial plans for 985 homes on the site of the former women’s prison in Holloway, north London.
The scheme, for housing association Peabody, includes buildings up to 14 stories tall as well as a public park and a women’s center. Islington Council planning officers had recommended it for approval, saying it would provide an acceptable mix of tenures and feature “well-designed buildings.”
On 10 February, 2022, a series of objectors spoke at the Islington planning committee meeting at the council’s Assembly Hall, with councillors eventually deciding to defer the application so they could discuss some elements of the scheme in greater depth. The proposed scheme is 60 percent affordable housing, divided up into 70 percent social rent and 30 percent shared ownership.
