A penthouse on Manhattan’s Billionaire’s Row at 220 Central Park South has sold for US$72 million, records show.

The full-floor unit is just over 5,000 square feet (464 square meters) with three bedrooms and a 312-square-foot (28.9-square-meter) terrace, according to the building’s offering plan. The unit wasn’t officially on the market. The buyer, who couldn’t be identified, also paid US$3 million for a smaller unit in the building.

The Billionaires’ Row tower currently holds the record for most expensive sale in the U.S.

Designed by Robert A.M. Stern Architects, the tower is clad in Alabama Silver Shadow limestone, and has amenities like a pool, athletic club and private restaurant. .
