Two firms, Maccreanor Lavington and HawkinsBrown, have submitted proposals in May 2023 for a new neighborhoods in central Manchester that would together deliver 4,800 one-, two-, and three-bedroom new homes. The proposals would cover 11- and 2.8-hectare plots near Manchester Victoria station centered around River Irk.
Maccreanor Lavington’s plan has been submitted in conjunction with Schulze+Grassov for 3,250 homes. Their proposal also includes a primary school, a health center, and commercial and community space. The plan would intermingle with St. Catherine’s Wood as part of their “wild urbanism” principle in hopes of boosting biodiversity. The scheme includes tall buildings of between eight and 16 stories.
