On Monday afternoon, 8 January 2024, an explosion occurred at the 20-story Sandman Signature Fort Worth Downtown Hotel in Fort Worth, Texas, injuring a reported 21 people. The cause is yet to be determined on why the apparent explosion happened, but speculation is that the cause was a gas leak. NBC Dallas-Fort Worth’s aerial footage revealed apparent damage to the building, with sections of walls and portions of window frames blown out on both the first and second floors. Debris, comprising insulation and fragments of windows, was strewn across the sidewalk and road.
The hotel had been recently retrofitted with work being completed in 2023.
