“Mentoring is a strange process as there are no rules. The intent is to gently push the mentee in a direction that provides unknown information and opens doors to further information, that can be used in their daily tasks. There is no better satisfaction than seeing a mentee open up and smile when they say ‘okay I get it now’.”

Who are our mentees?
CTBUH mentees are emerging professionals—typically with fewer than 10 years of experience in the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) industry—who are eager to grow, learn from experience, and build meaningful professional relationships. An ideal mentee:

- Is open to receiving constructive feedback and learning from it
- Takes initiative in scheduling meetings, preparing agendas, and following up

“Delving into the world of net-zero tall buildings through this CTBUH mentoring program has been an enlightening experience. Not only did it broaden my understanding of sustainable architecture, but the friendly and clear manner in which my mentor explained every aspect made it an enjoyable journey of learning and growth.”

Driven by our global Future Leaders
The mission of the CVU Global Future Leaders Committee is to share knowledge, experience, and skills with the next generation of leaders within the CTBUH network to help improve connections, cross-industry communication, and performance.
Guided by a mentoring framework
To help guide participants through a structured and meaningful experience, the CVU Mentorship Program follows a suggested timeline. This framework outlines key milestones—from your first meeting to program wrap-up—ensuring that both mentors and mentees stay aligned, focused, and on track for success throughout the journey.
Remember, goals can evolve—be open to adjusting them, and share feedback regularly to keep the relationship strong and beneficial for both parties.
Preparing for your mentorship journey
Your first mentoring session is a chance to get to know one another, establish mutual expectations, and begin building a foundation of trust. Conversations can be broad and exploratory—confidentiality is essential to fostering an open and honest relationship.
To support a productive start, mentees will receive a pre-session worksheet to help identify key discussion topics and goals in advance.
Ongoing sessions & communication
Schedule regular sessions. We recommend monthly meetings. At the conclusion of your first session, set clear goals using the program-provided goal-setting template as a guide.
Mentee-led coordination. Mentees are responsible for arranging and confirming each meeting.
Stay intentional. To encourage meaningful dialogue, use the meeting notes template during each session and share the notes with your mentor afterward.
Wrap-up and reporting
At the end of the program, mentees will complete a brief final report using the provided template to summarize the experience and outcomes.
We also encourage mentorship pairs to meet at the CTBUH 2025 International Conference, “From the Ground Up: Tall Buildings and City-Making,” is 6-9 October 2025, in Toronto.
While the 2025 program officially concludes in December, participants are welcome to continue their mentorship beyond that point.size the importance of connected urbanism.
