Approval has been secured for a major residential development in Box Hill, Melbourne, featuring seven skyscrapers. The $1.57 billion USD residential precinct has secured itself through Victoria’s fast-track development program. The project, centered around the new Suburban Rail Loop station, will deliver 1,700 homes, including a 10 percent affordable housing component.
The Bates Smart-designed masterplan integrates residential units with commercial, retail, and lifestyle spaces across varying building heights, ranging from 19- to 50-story-high. Part of a broader effort to add 800,000 new homes in Victoria over the next decade, the development aims to foster community growth with improved access to jobs and public transport. It also promises to add significant public amenities, including plazas, open spaces, and paths for pedestrians and cyclists. The project’s progression, previously hindered by appeals, marks a step towards revitalizing Box Hill’s CBD and is expected to create over 850 jobs.
