Harrisburg University is nearing completion on the outside portion of its new US$110 million Science Education Center in downtown Harrisburg. The last days for final lifts, moving the air handling units and chillers to the roof took place April 13 and 14, 2022. The large crane that was used to lift the heavy objects will be removed on April 22, 2022 closing the building. Workers will then finish the interior part of the project.
The new 11-story health science and advanced manufacturing educational facility is slated to open in 2023 and will accommodate at least 1,000 additional students. The project costs US$83 million for construction, as well as US$27 million in soft costs, including furniture and equipment. When finished, the facility is expected to be nearly 170,000 square feet (15,793 square meters) of finished educational space, as well 40,000 square feet (3,716 square meters) of unfinished shell space.
Inside, the building will consist of student service offices and spaces, advanced manufacturing educational and experiential learning spaces, health sciences educational and experiential spaces, interactive media educational and production spaces, as well as general purpose education offices and facilities.
