One Bloor West, formerly known as The One, has officially reached supertall status, surpassing 300 meters. Located at the corner of Bloor and Yonge in Toronto, the 85-story skyscraper is being completed by Tridel, with full occupancy expected in about three years. Designed by Foster + Partners with Core Architects, the predominantly residential tower also includes commercial spaces at its base.

Recent progress saw the elevator core reach the 85th floor, with steel girders lifted on June 25 to begin forming the structural crown. Once complete, the building will stand 308.6 meters tall. Its distinctive structure features eight megacolumns supporting cruciform floor slabs, with innovative cantilevered corners suspended every six floors by steel brackets. These are grouped into larger 18-storey blocks separated by mechanical levels that help mitigate wind effects.

At the top, the steel framework will enclose a tuned mass damper (TMD), a large mechanical system designed to counteract wind sway and enhance comfort for residents. Tridel marked the milestone with a “rooftopping” celebration inside the future retail podium, underscoring the significance of this engineering achievement for Canada’s skyline.
