Construction on a tower in downtown San Jose has been halted after a discovery that led to an archaeological assessment of the project site and consultation with a Native American tribe.

Park Habitat is being concepted as an office tower where people can work in a yard. The development at 180 Park Avenue is being driven by a partnership between Canada-based Westbank and the San Jose-based Urban Community.

The developers broke ground at Park Habitat in April 2022 and began demolition of the site in May 2022 at the old Parkside Hall complex, which once served as a convention center.

The construction project recently yielded a discovery, of which details have not yet been made public, which has delayed the project’s development timeline. This discovery has caused a pause in construction.

The 20-story tower will contain 60,800 square feet (5,648 square meters) of museum space that will be used for the expansion of The Tech Interactive, as well as 11,700 square feet (1,086 square meters) of ground floor retail for dining and retail.
