Abbas Aminmansour

Dr. Aminmansour is a member of the Structures Concentration faculty and Chair of the Building Performance Program of the School of Architecture at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His areas of interest include structural steel design as well as sustainability impact of tall buildings. He has received grants from the National Science Foundation (NSF), the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC), IBM, the University of Illinois among other sources.

Professor Aminmansour is a member of the Editorial Board of the CTBUH’s International Journal of High-Rise Buildings (IJHRB) as well as a past Chair and current member of the Chicago Committee on High Rise Buildings (CCHRB). DR. Aminmansour is a 2022 Fellow of the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat.

Since 2003, Dr. Aminmansour has offered a course entitled Integrated Design and Construction of Buildings at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The course presents case studies of design and construction of tall buildings and is offered with help from the Chicago Committee on High Rise Buildings (CCHRB). He has also helped establish a certificate program in design of tall buildings at the University of Illinois.

In 2019, professor Aminmansour was interviewed for a television mini-series documentary titled, “Skyscrapers: Engineering the Future,” produced by WildBear Entertainment, aired by the Science Channel in the U.S. and other networks in several other countries.

Professor Aminmansour developed the formulas and table included in Part Six (Combined Forces) of the Steel Construction Manual published by the AISC. Aminmansour is a member of the AISC’s Committee on Manuals which is responsible for the contents of the AISC’s Steel Construction Manual and the Seismic Manual. He is also a member of Task Committee 4 (TC 4 - - Member Design) of the AISC Committee on Specification.

Professor Aminmansour is honored to have been selected as a consultant (worked with Prof. Mir Ali) by the international artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude on their United Arab Emirates Mastaba project.
