Derry Yu is Technical Director-Built Environment of Mott Macdonald HK Office, Derry is on the Expert Peer Review Committee of CTBUH, and a Steel Structure Expert for the China Construction Metal Structure Association and China Steel Construction Society.

He received his PhD in seismic design of structures from Kyoto University of Japan in 1992. He is a chartered structural engineer & project manager with 29 years of experiences, and has worked on projects across Hong Kong, Macau, Mainland China, Japan, the Middle East, and other regions. His areas of expertise include structural design, research & analysis, value engineering, project management for all design stages & contractual/tendering process, and seismic design analysis.

Derry is the first inventor for No-bolt No-welding prefabricated steel Structural system, with total 8 Invention Patents had been granted in Japan, USA, Hong Kong & Mainland China.

Derry has been involved in many major projects include mixed use/ super high-rise buildings such as GZ CTF Finance Centre and TJ CTF Finance Centre located in Guangzhou and Tianjin of China, both 530m tall and completed in 2017 and 2018 respectively.

Derry's works mainly focus on the overall project management from project initiation, design, construction to completion for some exciting mixed-use & integrated resorts located in Philippines, Russia and Japan.

Derry's recent works include some public and government projects in Hong Kong, some new technology such as MiC/DfMA had been adopted for realizing low carbon and greener design and construction.
