Javier Quintana de Uña

About

Javier is a senior leader and architect with over 20 years of experience driving strategic, commercial and operational growth of consultancies, not-for-profits and academic institutions in the architectural and construction industry, with particular expertise in tall buildings.

Currently, as Chief Executive Officer of the Council on Vertical Urbanism (CVU), the world's leading non-profit organization for all those interested in density and the future of cities, he is managing the global team that delivers CVU's services and solutions to thousands of professionals working in all building industry sectors in over 60 countries.

Previously, Javier was Managing Director of IDOM UK Ltd, the British subsidiary of IDOM, a >4000-strong Architecture and Engineering consultancy with operations across 23 countries in five continents and ranked #38 in the World Architecture 100 Ranking 2021. Under his leadership, IDOM UK won flagship projects for iconic organizations, including commissions from major international competitions for large and complex architectural undertakings across the globe.

This followed Javier's role as Founding Partner and Principal of Taller Basico de Arquitectura, which he grew from start-up to an established, multi-award-winning architectural practice. Taller Basico received multiple industry accolades over the course of 15 years, notably selected to represent Spain in the Architectural Biennale in Venice.

During this period, Javier was handpicked as Founding Dean to lead the development, launch and growth of IE's University's School of Architecture and Design, a highly innovative professionally oriented model of architectural education. From the ground up, he established and grew the school to a globally recognized institution with accredited undergraduate, master's, post-professional, executive, and summer school programmes, 250 students and 70 faculty members.

Javier is also an accomplished researcher and academic with over 20 years of teaching and publishing experience internationally. He holds a Doctoral degree on Tall Buildings from the University of Navarre (Spain), and a Master's degree in Advanced Architectural Design from Columbia University (US), is a Chartered Architect with the Royal Institute of British Architects, and a Registered Architect with the Architect's Council of Spain. His work as an architect and researcher has been awarded and widely published.
