Sherwin-Williams has secured its initial occupancy permit from Cleveland city officials for its new global headquarters in downtown Cleveland, setting the stage for phased move-ins later this year on the first 13 floors. Full occupancy is expected by early 2026, with over 3,000 employees slated to relocate to the 36-floor complex.

The US$860 million “Building Our Future” project spans a campus of three buildings — a two-story pavilion fronting Public Square, the main building, and a multi-level parking structure — totaling about one million square feet (92,903 square meters). Ground was broken in January 2022, and the final steel beam was erected in December 2023.

This partial occupancy comes as show of strength that they are moving ahead after inspectors in early 2025 flagged some steel beams in the building that lacked sufficient fire-protection coating, requiring remediation before full occupancy. While Sherwin-Williams says it’s collaborating with city agencies and will make necessary corrections, the extent of the delays remains unclear. As the company transitions into its new headquarters, a recently installed 106-foot (32.3 meter) Sherwin-Williams sign now spans the East and West faces of the tower, symbolically reinforcing the brand’s presence on Cleveland’s skyline.

The approved occupancy permit marks a major milestone.
