CTBUH member DeSimone Consulting Engineering has expanded its vertical transportation practice with the appointment of Robert Haughey as practice leader in New York, strengthening the firm’s integrated building systems expertise across its global portfolio.

Haughey brings nearly a decade of experience in elevator consulting, modernization, and maintenance strategy, having held key roles at Otis Worldwide Corporation, Schindler Elevator Corporation, and Lerch Bates. Known for his collaborative and solutions-driven approach, he has advised major clients including Amazon, JPMorgan Chase, American Express, Hines, Brookfield Properties, CBRE, Marriott International, and NBCUniversal.

In his new role, Haughey will enhance DeSimone’s elevator and building systems capabilities following the firm’s 2023 acquisition of KP Elevator Consulting—renowned for projects such as the Seattle Space Needle modernization. His appointment reinforces DeSimone’s commitment to offering specialized in-house services tailored to the needs of tall-building projects in complex urban environments like New York City.

“We’re excited to welcome Robert to our New York office,” said Stephen V. DeSimone, Chairman and CEO. “He has earned an outstanding reputation consulting on some of the city’s most challenging and celebrated tall buildings.” DeSimone Principal Kelly Houlihan added, “Robert’s leadership and ability to translate the technical intricacies of vertical transportation projects will be invaluable to our clients in New York and beyond.”

Most recently, Haughey led major modernization and maintenance programs, including JPMorgan Chase’s national vertical transportation portfolio and the recently opened 60-story 270 Park Avenue headquarters, where he oversaw pedestrian and material flow integration. At another project on 383 Madison Avenue, he directed the comprehensive modernization of 33 elevators and escalators.

“DeSimone is synonymous with innovation and engineering excellence,” said Haughey. “I look forward to advancing that legacy in vertical transportation, helping clients navigate complex modernization programs with clarity and confidence.”
