The Middle East is facing an unprecedented escalation in conflict centered on confrontations between Iran and a coalition led by the United States and Israel, with missiles, drones, and intercepts now coursing across the region. What began with a coordinated U.S.–Israeli military campaign against Iranian military and strategic targets, has rapidly expanded into a broader conflict involving retaliatory barrages, strikes on U.S. and allied bases in the Gulf states. In this volatile backdrop, aerial threats are also intersecting with civilian urban environments, where tall buildings and dense cityscapes are within range of missiles, drones, and falling debris.
Amid reporting on Manama, Bahrain over the weekend, the Council on Vertical Urbanism has been able to confirm two tall buildings were directly impacted.
Widely circulated video shows a drone colliding into the upper floors of the ERA View Tower along the waterfront of Manama’s Hoora District, while the 165-meter building, The Breaker, located in the Seef District to the northwest caught fire from a likely similar drone strike or falling debris from a missile intercept. It is currently unknown if there were any injuries associated with these occurrences.Â
The Council will continue to monitor and provide updates as events unfold.
