One of Dubai’s longstanding architectural landmarks, the Toyota Building on Sheikh Zayed Road, is scheduled for demolition in 2027 after more than five decades of standing in the city’s skyline.
Completed in 1974, the 15-story building predates much of the high-rise development that now defines the main transportation and commercial artery of the city. It became widely recognized after a large Toyota sign was installed on its rooftop in 1981, establishing a familiar reference point for the surrounding corridor that was later developed into one of Dubai’s principal commercial districts.
Tenants are expected to remain in the building until December 2026, ahead of its planned demolition the following year. Details of what could replace the structure have not yet been announced.
The demolition will remove this visual marker of an earlier period in Dubai’s urban development. During its lifespan, the surrounding city has dramatically transformed from a comparatively low-rise urban area into a global concentration of skyscrapers, hotels, offices, and mixed-use developments.
