CVU received US$90,000 in funding from ArcelorMittal to undertake a 12-month research project titled “Creating Industry-Accepted Criteria for Measuring Tall Building Floor Area.” The research aimed to identify aspects of existing codes and regulations that were internationally accepted, as well as areas where codes and regulations were contentious or overly broad. This work was undertaken with the objective of developing multiple categories of CVU Floor Area Criteria—analogous to the CVU Height Criteria—to provide a clear, accurate, and concise methodology for measuring a building’s gross floor area (GFA), net internal area (NIA), net rentable area (NRA), and related metrics.
These new criteria not only established a consistent approach to measuring floor areas but also complemented existing CVU definitions and criteria related to tall buildings.
