Known as the Sheraton Arlington Hotel, the 19-story hotel building in Arlington, Texas, was demolished in a controlled implosion on June 6, marking the end of a four-decade presence in the city’s Entertainment District and clearing the way for a new phase of redevelopment.

The explosives demolition was planned and executed by Controlled Demolition, Inc. (CDI) of Phoenix, Maryland, acting as explosives subcontractor to main demolition contractor Lindamood of Irving, Texas. The reinforced concrete structure encompassed approximately 230,000 square feet (21,367 square meters) and was brought down through a carefully coordinated implosion sequence.

Originally completed in 1985, it served as a key hospitality anchor near Arlington’s convention and entertainment venues. The hotel permanently closed earlier in 2026 as preparations for demolition began.

The implosion was the culmination of months of planning and preparation, with explosive charges strategically placed to direct the building inward and minimize impacts on surrounding infrastructure. The structure collapsed within seconds, drawing spectators from across the region.

The demolition clears the site for the future Americana by Loews hotel, a 507-room hospitality development that forms part of Arlington’s ongoing investment in its tourism and entertainment district. Construction on the replacement project is expected to begin this year, with completion anticipated by 2028 or 2029.
