Residents of the Water’s Edge Apartments at 370 Ocean Ave. learned on 6 July 2022 that the 16-story building has been condemned two weeks after a fire started on the 11th floor deck on 21 June caused significant damage. The locks to the building were being changed late that morning and fellow residents stated that they were not given any warning by officials in the Massachusetts city nor by the property owner.

Revere Mayor Brian Arrigo, however, said in a statement shared with NewsCenter 5 on Wednesday, 6 July that since the fire, residents of the high-rise have been informed that the property was unsafe and that there were safety issues that needed to be addressed before they could return to the building.

Arrigo said the city conducted a follow-up inspection of the property on Tuesday, 5 July and found the health and safety violations were not addressed and that the building’s condition was in significant decline. This forced the Revere Inspectional Services and Health departments to condemn the building and deemed it “unfit for human habitation.”
