The Central Crossing development at 118 Wellington Street has topped out in Hong Kong’s Central district, marking a key construction milestone. Designed by Foster + Partners, the project comprises a taller office building and a slightly shorter hotel building.

The two buildings are visually divided into “high” and “low” zones. Upper levels feature full-height glazing framed in polished stainless steel, while lower sections adopt a textured, gold-toned façade that introduces greater privacy and material contrast. The taller office building is distinguished by an “illuminated spire” that extends the full height and projects a beam of light skyward, adding a new nighttime landmark to Hong Kong’s skyline.

At street level, the scheme integrates four historic structures, including a shop house at 120 Wellington Street—one of the city’s oldest remaining examples of its kind. The project is organized around a permeable public space intended to reconnect the site with surrounding streets and reinstate historic urban links within Central’s dense commercial fabric.

Central Crossing has achieved multiple sustainability credentials, including BEAM Plus New Building v2.0 Provisional Platinum, LEED v4 pre-certification (Platinum for the office and Gold for the hotel), and WELL certification. Environmental strategies include circular water systems, such as reusing cooling-tower bleed-off water for toilet flushing, reinforcing the development’s emphasis on performance alongside architectural expression.
