A waterfront mixed-use development in Wuhan, China, is progressing towards a new deliverable date now that the city has reopened after the COVID-19 outbreak. Shimao Riverside Block D2b, originally targeted a completion in 2021. The project recently broke ground, with an anticipated completion in 2025.
Designed by Atelier Ping Jiang / EID Arch, SRBD is located at a prominent riverfront site in Haiyang district. Consisting of high-rise office building, hotel, residential and retail uses, the master planning of SRBD is centered around creation of multidimensional public open spaces and enhancing urban experiences. The 500,000 square meter program includes a 300-meter-tall office/hotel building, with the Conrad Hotel occupying its upper portion.
The podium has been scaled down to foster a porous street interface, stimulating street activities and creating a permeable streetscape. A pedestrian friendly retail center is organized around two atriums. The site also features a cascade of green terraces reactivating the waterfront public realm.
An amphitheater on the roof terrace facing the Yangtze River and Yingwuzhou Park will serve as an outdoor community venue for social and cultural events. On the western side of the site, two apartment towers will provide approximately 100,000 square meters of residences.
