On 11 June, a 16-story building that features 204 apartments designed specifically for seniors had an opening ceremony with the New York City Department of Housing Development and Preservation (HPD), the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA), and the New York City Housing Development Corporation (HDC). Located at 1001 Thieriot Avenue in Sunnyview, a neigbhorhood in the southeastern part of the the Bronx. Part of the Justice Sonia Sotomayor campus, the project provides housing for formerly homeless seniors and those earning up to 50 percent of the area median income.

The development, with an overall cost of $113 million USD, offers a variety of amenities including a fitness room, community spaces, a laundry facility, and a rooftop terrace deck. Notably, 30 percent of its units are reserved for seniors transitioning out of shelters. Casa Celina, developed by Xenolith Partners, LLC and designed by Magnusson Architecture and Planning, aims to support strong mental health with expansive windows throughout the apartments and common areas to offer abundant natural light. The individual apartments feature walk-in showers, wheelchair accessible units, and handicap and visual-handicap accessible units. Additionally, bright resident lounges on each floor—including communal game spaces on every fourth floor—create a vertical network of community areas, conducive to social interaction and helping to prevent isolation for residents living alone.
