A new shark fin shaped residential tower, known as Shark Tower, is under construction in Puerto Cancún. The building, inspired by the shape of shark fins, is on a mission to give back to the local environment.
Luximia Group, the developer of the project, decided that the complex would house both residential units and a research laboratory to study both the psychology and behavior of sharks, and human activity on the ocean.
Shark Tower has obtained private capital and is expected to start operations in 2021. It will be a sustainable building, with the orientation and architecture of the proposed structure designed to use as little water and energy as possible.
“The building, inspired by the shape of shark fins, is on a mission to give back to the local environment.”
The development is set to have 20 floors, 134 apartments, six penthouses, an elevated pool and lounge, infinity pool, cinema, spa, and gym, among other amenities, according to its website.
The laboratory within Shark Tower, led by the association Saving our Sharks, will have several initiatives. The basis of their mission will be to detect where shark breeding areas are located within the Mexican Caribbean to aid their conservation research.
