The unfinished penthouse at the top of Trump International Hotel & Tower is tentatively under contract to a buyer. The unit, more than 14,200 square feet (1,319 square meters) on the 89th floor, came on the market in September, 2021 for US$30 million. The listing for the property was marked “contingent.”
Finishing it into a livable home will cost at least several million dollars. Sanjay Shah, who paid $17 million for the unfinished penthouse in 2014, said at the time that he would finish it and move in by 2018. Instead, in 2021 he listed it for resale, still in the raw state it was in when the developers of the tower first offered it in 2012 for US$32 million.
The buyer’s offered price could not yet be disclosed because of ethics rules that real estate agents observe. The buyers are not yet identified. After this article was published, real estate agents with access to the records said that Rafaeli is indicated as the agent for the buyers as well as for the sellers. If the deal goes through, it could be one of the highest condo sale prices ever recorded in Chicago.
