In a defining approval, Oklahoma City has approved the construction for the Legends Tower, that has been proposed to reach the heigh of 1,907 ft (581 m). With plans to begin construction later this year, this ambitious project with the new height approval, would make it taller than New York City’s One World Trade Center by 130 ft (39 m).

The site, currently a parking lot near a railroad and a U-Haul storage facility, will transform into a complex housing residential units and a luxury hotel. The development, costing $1.2 billion USD and set for a first phase completion in 2026, has raised eyebrows due to its location in a tornado-prone, less populated area and the financial viability of such a massive undertaking. Despite concerns, including those about low-income housing inclusion, the project received nearly unanimous city council approval for the necessary rezoning, with full financing reportedly secured by developer Scot Matteson. Construction for Legends Tower is expected to take about three years following the initial phase.
