Buckley Gray Yeoman has submitted plans for a 19-story office building in Waterloo, central London.  The scheme will involve demolition of four properties on the Waterloo Road and Cornwall Road site, replacing them with a 70.9 meter tall tower. MATT Architecture will refurbish the exsisting Mercury House, a four-story mixed-use building, which will serve as a podium for the new tower.

Around 32,000 square meters of new office space will be created as well as ground floor shop space.  The building would be operationally net zero carbon and the first building in the UK to feature a ‘solar-skin’ with photovoltaic panels integrated into its façade system.  It will also feature planted terraces on the roof of both the tower and podium as well as trees on the balconies.

The new tower will have a dark metal frame while its middle section would have glazed spandrels in white metal framing. A two-story crown with a green steel truss will top the tower.

Lambeth Council will rule on the planning application in the coming months.
