The local government has approved TateHindle’s designs for 454 homes at a parking lot site by Wembley Station in north-west London. Former housing secretary Robert Jenrick called in the scheme after Brent Council approved it in 2020, saying he wanted to hear whether the plans would be consistent with national housing policy and accord with the local development plan.

The scheme, which is being brought forward by a joint venture between Barratt London and Transport for London (TfL), will feature five blocks between 13 and 21 stories tall, connected by a first-floor podium.

Planning inspector Tom Gilbert-Wooldridge said the delivery of 154 affordable homes weighed substantially in the development’s favor, although he acknowledged that the tenure split of 49 percent affordable rent and 51 percent intermediate rent did not achieve the ratio required by Brent’s policies.
