Block 185, a 35-floor downtown Austin office tower, has topped out at 179.5 meters.
Located at 601 West Second Street, the building with a silhouette evocative of a sailboat, is being realized by developers Trammell Crow Company and investment firm MSD Capital. Designed by Pelli Clarke Pelli, the building’s multiple terraced setbacks accommodate the restrictions of the city’s Waterfront Overlay.
The Block 185 building represents the final piece of Trammell Crow’s Green Water Treatment Plant redevelopment project started back in 2014 as part of a deal with the City of Austin, which has gradually replaced four parcels formerly occupied by the water treatment plant with other buildings including Northshore Apartments, 500 West Second Street, and Austin Proper.
Upon completion, anticipated in May 2022, the building will deliver 74,322 rentable square meters (800,000 rentable square feet) of office space, along with an additional ground-level retail component.
