Alan Poeppel
About
Alan Poeppel’s diverse experience in geotechnical engineering includes the management, investigation, instrumentation, design, and construction of commercial buildings, healthcare facilities, cultural institutions, public schools and universities, airports, infrastructure/master planning, and specialized (i.e. high-rise and super-tall buildings) projects in the United States and overseas. He has extensive knowledge about the coordination and supervision of subsurface investigations, establishment and monitoring of geotechnical instrumentation, designs for shallow and deep foundation systems; evaluation of earth and rock slope stability, preparation of geotechnical engineering reports and recommendations, and coordination/supervision of construction inspection services.
Throughout his career, Mr. Poeppel has spearheaded a number of notable projects including the New York Botanical Garden, Silver Towers, African Burial Ground, Sotheby’s auction house, Rockefeller University campus expansions, and the award-winning Mott Haven Campus in the Bronx. He has also worked on supertall tower projects in India and the Middle East, including Kuala Lumpur City Center and Jeddah Tower.
In 2017, Mr. Poeppel was presented with the University of Illinois’ CEEAA Distinguished Alumnus Award. Mr. Poeppel was also selected by ENR as one of the Top 25 Newsmakers of 2015.
