Alejandro Fernandez serves as an Associate Principal at Thornton Tomasetti’s Chicago office. With a strong background in both engineering and architecture, he has been involved in the design of numerous significant buildings across Europe, the Middle East and the United States. As a part of the Building Structure practice at Thornton Tomasetti, Alejandro has made notable contributions to projects including Ascent in Milwaukee, WI, Akhmat Tower in Grozny, Russia and Al Wasl Plaza for Expo 2020 in Dubai, among others. He specializes in the use of mass timber as a construction material and is actively engaged in researching and applying his findings to several prominent timber projects in the United States. He holds a Master’s degree in Architecture from the Illinois Institute of Technology, as well as a Master's in Engineering from École Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées in Paris, France and the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid in Spain.
