About

Carlo Parente is Associate Professor and Associate Chair (Graduate Program, Architecture) in the Department of Architectural Science at Toronto Metropolitan University. His teaching and research examine obsolescence and modernity as defining features of the contemporary condition. His work explores how highly mobile, connected, and ever-changing urban environments reshape architecture while foregrounding the imperative to adapt existing buildings and infrastructure. Another scholarly interest is the gallery as a pedagogical tool and the use of exhibitions as a site for research, teaching, and engagement.

In parallel with his academic role, Carlo is the founder of Carlo Parente Architecture, a practice that extends these research interests into built work. Prior to establishing his firm, Carlo taught at the Illinois Institute of Technology and worked as a senior designer at leading practices in Chicago and Toronto. His built projects are located across North America, Europe, and Asia, and range from small-scale interventions to large-scale international developments.
