About

David Malott is a Japanese-American architect, technologist, and entrepreneur. As the founder and Chief Architect of AI Planetworks, an award-winning architecture firm based in New York, Barcelona, and Shanghai, he spearheads the development of Earth-centric solutions for buildings and cities. With a focus on making urban environments greener, more livable, and connected, AI Planetworks is at the forefront of innovative tall building architecture.

Prior to founding AI Planetworks, Mallot was a partner at Kohn Pedersen Fox, where he led the design of iconic skyscrapers such as the Shanghai World Financial Center, Hong Kong International Commerce Center, and the PingAn Finance Center, Shenzhen. With his expertise in tall building architecture, David served as chairman of the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat from 2014 to 2017.

A graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, his designs stem from his exploration of physical and biological systems. He sees buildings as breathing and living entities which form a larger ecosystem of urban life, bringing to architecture an understanding of the complex social, economic, and environmental dynamics of the world’s cities and the cultures which connect them.
