Hi Sun Choi has more than 30 years of experience in the structural analysis, design and review of supertall buildings. She was a senior principal with Thornton Tomasetti until 2022, and is now a consultant. She has specializations in the design of deep foundations, optimized structural systems for wind and seismic control, and performance-based seismic design. Over the course of her career, Hi Sun served as the lead designer and project manager of high-profile projects on several continents. These include Barclays Investment Bank headquarters and 30 Hudson Yards in New York City; We’ve the Zenith, Seoul International Financial Center and New Songdo City in South Korea; Shanghai Tower in China; SOCAR Tower in Azerbaijan; and Al Thumama Stadium in Qatar.

Hi Sun serves as co-chair of CTBUH Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee and the International Journal of High-Rise Buildings as an International Editorial Board. She is a co-author of CTBUH’s “Outrigger Design for High-Rise Buildings” and a contributor to The Space Across: Skybridges and the Future City.

Hi Sun holds a master’s degree in civil engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a bachelor’s degree from Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art. She is a frequent lecturer on supertall building design at universities in the United States and internationally and has served as an adjunct professor at the Pratt Institute and the New Jersey Institute of Technology.
