James Chin

About

James is an accomplished architect with 30 years of global design experience, including over two decades in the Middle East. He currently serves as a Director and 2IC to the CEO of PNC Architects, a 1400 strong consultant arm to Sobha Realty in Dubai, where he oversees design leadership, project delivery, company strategy and R & D across the Middle East.

Throughout his career, James has been instrumental in driving architectural excellence and has been nominated for several prestigious industry awards in recognition of his innovative contributions. He leads the firm’s internal Research and Development group along with other initiatives such as Sobha 70:70; which seeks to make 70% of construction off site and 70% of that off-site work to be automated.

James has played a central role in PNCA and Sobha’s evolution toward larger, more complex towers and masterplans. To date, he has led the design of over 40 tower projects with a combined built-up area exceeding 30 million square feet, encompassing more than 28,000 residential units. 5 of these towers are supertalls and 2 are over 100 floors. Many of these developments have earned accolades across regional platforms for their design excellence and impact.

Currently, James is spearheading the design and delivery of Sobha Hartland II, a transformative masterplan featuring Sobha’s upcoming global headquarters and a 10-million-square-foot canal-lagoon district anchored by 14 residential towers. The project was recently recognized as the Mixed-Use Development of the Year 2024 by Design Middle East MENA.

Among his most recent landmark projects is Sobha Central, a bold reimagining of high-density urban living through a pioneering “city within a building” concept. This 7m sqft integrated development unites six residential towers and a podium incorporating key community amenities, including a mosque, public park, direct motorway entry and exits, mall, medical center, offices, nursery and more.
