Mathieu leads Bates Smart’s Brisbane studio as Director, setting its design direction and overseeing key cityshaping projects. A specialist in high-rise residential, commercial and hotel projects, he brings over 25 years of global experience to designing innovative, high-density urban environments. Mathieu’s design philosophy is grounded in liveability, sustainability and place. He applies this thinking to complex towers, crafting architecture that supports thriving communities and distinct architectural identities. Since joining Bates Smart in 2012, Mathieu has been at the centre of some of the practice’s most significant tower projects, including Indi Sydney, Victoria Cross and 1 Denison. His leadership and design direction have helped establish these projects as benchmarks in transformative, citymaking design. In Brisbane, Mathieu is leading the high-density, mixed-use precinct at Melbourne + Manning, and the new Merivale Hotel in Southbank — both of which reflect his commitment
