Mikkel K. Kragh is Associate Director at Arup, where he leads the Building Design and Advisory Practice and the Technical Specialist Services Team in his native Denmark.

Prior to returning to Arup, Professor Kragh served as Head of Department, Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering, at Aarhus University (AU), Denmark. He led the department from the establishment in 2021 as part of a major restructure of the former Department of Engineering Science at Aarhus University.

Previously, Professor Kragh served as Head of Civil and Architectural Engineering at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU). He was appointed Full Professor in 2017, after having served as head of programme at the Danish Architecture Centre in Copenhagen and having worked internationally as a façade specialist on numerous prestigious construction projects with Dow Corning, Arup, and the Permasteelisa Group.

In parallel with design work, he has led a number of collaborative R&D projects, consistently pushing the boundaries in the field of high-performance facades. He has consistently worked in interdisciplinary settings. Having held various positions spanning research, specialist contracting, specialist consulting, manufacturing, and having chaired the Society of Façade Engineering, he has unique insight into high performance building solutions as well as the role of technical specialist design input in the construction industry.

Professor Kragh holds an MSc in Civil and Structural Engineering and a PhD in Building Physics from the Technical University of Denmark (DTU). He is a Chartered Engineer (CEng); a Member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (MASHRAE); Member of the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (MCIBSE); and a Fellow of the Society of Façade Engineering (FSFE). In 2014, he was awarded the CIBSE Silver Medal for outstanding service to the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers. In 2017, Professor Kragh became a member of ATV – the Danish Academy of the Technical Sciences – an independent, member-driven think tank. Membership is for life. ATV’s vision is that Denmark shall be one of five leading Science and Engineering regions in the world – to the benefit of future generations.
