About
Peter Cachola Schmal has been the Senior Director of the Deutsches Architekturmuseum (DAM) since 2006, and lives and works in Frankfurt. He previously started as a curator at the DAM in 2000 and has since contributed to multiple exhibitions locally and internationally. He was the general commissioner of the German Pavilion at the 15th International Architecture Exhibition La Biennale di Venezia in 2016, and for the German contribution in the VII International Architecture Biennale Sao Paulo in 2007.
has been involved in various cultural organizations, awards juries, and has spoken at multiple institutions including the BDA Frankfurt am Main a.O., Creative Advisory Board City of Offenbach, Committee, European Prize for Urban Public Space, Centro de Cultura Contemporania de Barcelona (CCCB) Steering Committee, European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture - Mies van der Rohe Award, Fundacio Mies van der Rohe, Barcelona. Schmal worked as an architect at ABE Architekten and Behnisch & Partner and was an architectural journalist prior to joining the DAM. He completed his architecture studies at the TU Darmstadt.
