Ric Clark
About
Ric Clark is a senior managing partner of Brookfield Asset Management (Brookfield) and the global head of its real estate business. Ric is also chief executive officer of the Brookfield Property Group, a subsidiary of Brookfield that holds its real estate investments globally, primarily through the flagship publicly listed company, Brookfield Property Partners.
Ric is a key player in the global commercial property landscape, heading one of the world’s largest and most sophisticated owners, operators and investors in property and driving multiple strategic initiatives. Since the formation of Brookfield Property Partners in 2013, Ric has led the growth of the company with a number of major acquisitions, including Brookfield Office Properties and Canary Wharf Group in London.
The Brookfield Property Group has interests in 138 premier office properties, 172 best-in-class retail malls around the globe, and an active development portfolio of 10 million square feet.
Ric serves as a director on several of Brookfield’s real estate affiliate company boards including chairman of Rouse Properties, and board member of General Growth Properties and IDI Gazeley.
Prior to the formation of Brookfield Property Partners, from 2002 to 2012 Ric was the chief executive officer of Brookfield Office Properties. In this role, Ric spearheaded the repositioning of the company into a global office business with the acquisition of the Hammerson office portfolio in London in 2012 and 18 Class A office properties in Australia in 2010, while divesting the company’s residential land development division.
In 2009, Ric expanded Brookfield’s opportunistic investment business with the creation of a $5 billion real estate turnaround program tasked with investing in under-valued real estate companies and portfolios. This initiative led to Brookfield’s recapitalization of General Growth Properties in 2010. Following this, a $4.4 billion global opportunity fund was launched in 2013 to acquire positions of control or influence as part of distressed real estate turnarounds or recapitalizations.
Ric has been with Brookfield’s real estate group and its predecessors and affiliates since 1984 in various senior roles. Ric is on the board of directors of the Real Estate Roundtable, serves on the executive committee of the Real Estate Board of New York, and chairs the board of the National Eating Disorders Association. Ric holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
