Russell Gilchrist

About

A native of Scotland, Russell Gilchrist has worked largely in the USA, UK and Asia, on projects worldwide. He became the Design Director for Gensler in Shanghai after transferring from the Beijing office in the same role. He is now a Principal based in Chicago. Prior to his current role he was a Director at AS+GG (Chicago) and Technical Director/Chicago Practice Leader at SOM (Chicago), Senior Associate at Richard Rogers Partnership (London) and Senior Designer at Foster + Partners (London). Russell has high-rise experience on projects and completed buildings in Houston, Dallas, Miami, London, Austrian Tyrol, Riyadh, Mumbai, Guangzhou, Taiyuan, Shanghai, Beijing, Wuhan, Zhuhei and Manila. Russell has published and lectured internationally on sustainability and tall buildings and is active within the Council for Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH). He has published papers at the Council’s Dubai (2008) & Shanghai Congresses (2012) as well as Conference papers at Chicago (2009) and Mumbai (2010). Russell has participated on the Sustainable and Fire & Life Safety working groups and is an occasional participant on the Height Committee. He recently co-authored a chapter for the tall buildings’ reference book entitled ‘Towards Energy Independence’.
