Jonathan Stein is a Managing Partner at SOM Chicago. Since joining the firm in 1999, he has led the delivery of large, complex projects around the world. Stein leads business and operational strategy for the Chicago office, broadening and deepening the office’s expertise, mentoring talent, and steering firmwide practice groups. Stein’s portfolio includes large-scale mixed-use, commercial, healthcare, interiors, education, and master planning projects around the globe.

In Asia, Stein’s notable projects include Tokyo Midtown in Japan, Tanjong Pagar Centre in Singapore, and AIA Tower in Hong Kong. Stein’s current work on One Bangkok, a large private mixed-use development showcases the firm’s integrated approach to architectural design, urban planning, and sustainable design. In the United States, Stein’s recent projects include an office tower in downtown Nashville; ; a training and education facility for Roche Diagnostics in Indianapolis; a LEED-certified. Neurological and Cancer Institute at Cleveland Clinic’s Florida campus; and in Chicago, Lincoln Common, a mid-rise mixed-use residential development.

Stein holds a Master of Architecture and a Master of Construction Management from Washington University, and an undergraduate degree from the University of Colorado. He is a registered architect in 24 U.S. states, two Canadian provinces, and two Australian states. He lectures frequently on architecture and real estate at academic institutions across the country, including at Cornell, Columbia University, and Northwestern University.
