About

Tony Rofail is a director at Windtech Consultants and has 30years’ of research and consultancy experience in wind engineering, his interest beginning during his undergraduate studies at the University of Sydney where he also completed a sponsored Masters of Engineering degree by research in 1991 on the subject of reliability of wind tunnel testing.

Tony assisted in the establishment of Windtech Consultants in 1991 and has since either undertook or supervised more than 3,000 wind engineering related studies for various types of projects around the world. These projects include super-tall building structures as well as stadiums, long-span bridges and special structures. During that time, Tony has also assisted in the development of wind tunnel testing and analysis techniques for tall buildings with complex behaviour such as tall buildings with highly coupled modes and the effect of load transfer between structurally linked tall buildings.

Tony has also been involved in the full-scale measurement of tall building behaviour as well as design and commissioning of auxiliary dampers in tall buildings. Tony has an active involvement in research and has published many papers in the areas of wind loading of structures that exhibit complex behaviour, wind loads on façades and façade elements, wind environment criteria, wind noise and modelling of natural ventilation in tall buildings.

Tony is a Chartered International Professional Engineer since 1994 and has been a member of the Australian and New Zealand Standards Committee for wind actions on Structures since 2008. Tony has assisted with the development of the draft Quality Assurance Manual for Wind Tunnel Testing, AWES-QAM-01-2001 as well as the 2019 edition, published by the Australasian Wind Engineering Society.

Tony has been involved in the CTBUH publication, “Wind Tunnel Testing Guide”, released in 2013.
Tony is also a member of the CTBUH working group for Building Damping technologies (2015-Present).
