CTBUH, now CVU, released The Roadmap on the Future Needs of Tall Buildings in partnership with the International Council for Research and Innovation in Building and Construction (CIB) and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). The Roadmap identifies priority research topics and gaps in the field of tall buildings, acting as a guide to assist all those concerned with the typology in the necessary planning of future research and funding.
The Roadmap covers 11 broad fields and 358 individual research topics, which are presented alongside commentary highlighting key trends and issues.
“Research funding has declined year-on-year for most of the past several decades – putting in jeopardy the very act of research to better our existence,” said Timothy Johnson, Chairman of the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat. “Research into making cities more efficient and sustainable is critically needed, now more than ever. Urban density is a key factor in this, and tall buildings are being embraced as a key element of that solution in many cities around the world. This Research Roadmap is a timely and essential document, as it establishes vital research priorities for the industry to consider and implement in the coming years.”
